Pittsburgh Bike Tours

Golden Triangle’s guided bike tours range from easy to moderate in difficulty.  The majority of the riding is on the traffic-free Three Rivers Heritage Trails. The occasional on-street, sidewalk or bridge connection should be expected, but you can count on our guides to keep you safe and happy.

All tours include a hybrid-bike rental, helmet and bottled water.  If you have any questions about our tours, please feel free to give us a call or check out the tour FAQ’s.

Tours Begin May 1, 2015.

Guided Tours

Let the Golden Triangle Bike Rental crew give you a new perspective of the Steel City… by bike!  Perfect for visitors and those calling Western PA home, we’ll connect the city’s riverfront trails while highlighting Pittsburgh’s current developments as well as its history.  Ever wonder what The Point looked like before the Park?  We’ll show yinz!  Curious how Bates Street got it’s name?  We’ll tell yinz!  By the end of the ride, you’ll be an honorary ‘yinzer’ no matter where you’re from!

Join us as we pedal our way around the Three Rivers Heritage trail and into Point State Park learning bits about the ‘Burgh along the way. Shhh!  Did you hear that?  Was it the laugh of the Laughing Kookaburra?  Or the scream of the Screaming Phia?  You didn’t hear anything?  Well it must have been Wookie, the Two-toed Sloth!  This ride takes us through The Point onto the North Shore where we’ll stop to visit Pittsburgh’s most famous neighbor, nestled between Heinz Field and PNC Park.  We’ll wind up to the Allegheny Commons, Pittsburgh’s oldest park, before spending some time with our feathered friends at the National Aviary!

Right smack in the middle of the SouthSide Works is a gem from München, the Pittsburgh Hofbräuhaus!  We’ll want to work up a thirst before sitting down for beers, so we’ll start at Point State Park, the showcase of Pittsburgh’s first renaissance.  As we cruise through the South Side, we’ll talk about bars as an integral part of the city’s mill life.  At the Hofbräuhaus, master brewers will enlighten our palettes with classic Bavarian beers brewed on site before riding the Eliza Furnace Trail back to the shop!

The Strip District is one of the most notable of Pittsburgh’s 90 neighborhoods, a place where the sights and smells of dozens shops overflow to the sidewalks and waft into the streets.  Originally, this was an area of industry before becoming Pittsburgh’s major shipping and receiving center.  Today, we’ll meet up with ‘Burgh Bits and Bites to sample authentic Polish Pierogi, old country Parma Sausage, and a true Yinzer favorite, Pepperoni Rolls.  We’ll make the ride home avoid Pittsburgh’s hills, just to keep those full tummies happy!

Hydration is an important part of any ride.  We’ll keep that in mind as we visit our friends at the East End Brewing Company taps in the Strip!  From our shop, we’ll put the Penn Avenue protected bike lane to use as we head to the Pittsburgh Public Market.  We’ll do a few rounds of tastings with the keeper of the taps, and you’ll also have the chance to grab some grub from the other vendors at the market.  The beers on tap rotate regularly, so be sure to grab a growler of your favorite while you can!

Tour FAQs

What’s included in my tour price?

Prices include a hybrid bike (sorry, no tandem, road or mountain bikes available for tours), a helmet and bottled water. Specialized tours, included wine tours and the PNC Park tour, include the tasting and entry fees.

Should I bring/wear anything specific?

We recommend seasonally appropriate clothing and comfortable, closed-toe shoes for riding. Bring your ID or your credit card, camera, sunscreen and a smile!

How old do I need to be to rent a bike/participate in a tour?

We welcome all ages, but customers under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign our liability waiver.

Children also must be 18 months or older, able to wear a helmet, and be tall enough to be strapped into our child trailers.  We use our discretion to keep our riders safe.

If your child, who is 18 months or older, is too small to wear a helmet and be strapped into our child trailers, we reserve the right to refuse the rental. Keep in mind this is for the safety of your child!

Who should participate in tours?

Our bike tours are an excellent way to see the city…whether you’re visiting or have lived in the area for years! We travel at a relaxing pace and invite all those in good health along. We have enjoyed the company of people from all walks of life, from families to corporate groups, and in various stages of life, from youth to seniors.

Children with bicycling experience may accompany their parents on our child size bikes.  Children must be able to ride a 24” geared bike with hand brakes (typical height is 4’5”, also depends on inseam measurement and clearance of cross bar).

We reserve the right to have children ride in a rear cart or tag-a-long if the child is not a strong rider.  Please discuss with one of our reps before booking your tour and feel free to come early to get your child fitted on their bike.

I’m ready to ride! How do I sign up for a tour?

Call us at 412-600-0675 or fill out the reservation form on our tour page. A member of our staff will be in touch to confirm the reservation!

Visit the tour section on our web page, fill out the form on the right hand side and we will get in touch with you to confirm and take payment for your reservation.

When should I arrive at Golden Triangle Bike Rental for a tour?

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time, so that you can fill out our waiver and get fitted on a bike.

Are the bike tours safe?

The majority of these routes will be on Pittsburgh’s paved trail system, with minimal to moderate on-road biking. We rate our tours from easy to hard:

Easy = mostly trails with little to no incline

Moderate = 50/50 trail to road, with some inclines

Hard = expect a healthy amount of on-road or uphill biking!

We provide helmets for tour participants and our tour guides carry First Aid kits for minor scrapes.

What happens if it rains?

Golden Triangle Bike Rental reserves the right to cancel a tour in the event of conditions that will jeopardize the safety of our riders. In the event that a tour is canceled, you may reschedule free of charge or request a full refund.

How do I reschedule or cancel my tour reservation?

Reservations may be rescheduled, at no charge, subject to availability and with at least 24 hours advance notice.  No-shows for tours will not receive a refund.

Tours may be cancelled due to inclement weather conditions. If we are unable to reschedule the tour, you will be issued a tour credit or full refund.

Cancellations are refundable with at least 24 hours advance notice, less a $10 service fee per reservation.  Cancellations made with less than 24 hours advance notice will be issued a tour credit for use anytime in the future.

Would my group benefit from a private tour?

Our bike tours are a unique way to see Pittsburgh…whether you’re visiting or have lived in the area for years. If your group is looking for an activity that fosters familiarity and relationship building, such as a family reunion or staff outing…a private tour is perfect for you!

If you want the confidence that the route is tailored to your group’s needs…a private tour is perfect for you!  We can travel along one of our existing routes, or we can work with you to plan a custom ride.  We’ve hosted school students, corporate executives, family outings, reunions, bachelor/bachelorettes and all have enjoyed our bike tours!

How do I request a private tour?
